“Beauty for a Future” and “Soccer for Peace” Programs Reaffirm Drummond’s Social Commitment

*The empowerment of women and children with the construction of values, are the results that ratify the projects carried out during 2016 in the township of Cordobita and the municipality of Cienaga.

Close to 30 women and 150 children from the township of Cordobita and the municipality of Cienaga have benefitted from the programs “Beauty for a Future” and “Soccer for Peace”. These programs promote the construction of social networks, strengthen values, and strengthen the importance of a family group.

This is how Drummond provides support through its social responsibility program in the Cordobita area of influence. Each of the mentioned projects look to create a better community from the social point of view in alliance with the Casa del Arbol Foundation, where discussions were held regarding interdisciplinary issues.

An example of this was the involvement of 30 women from the fishing communities of Cienaga and Cordobita, who were part of the 2016 class in the Beauty for a Future program. The group became certified after seven months of preparation in aspects that include beauty, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.

“Thanks to Drummond, who has always looked after us. Let this serve as an example for other mothers; this is an achievement that we’ve obtained to be able to move forward and help our children. Drummond has always sponsored us, thank you for this opportunity,” expressed Mirian Niño, who obtained her certification on the Beauty for a Future program.

“With the certification obtained by these women, we end a process that has been a long-time dream, and that has now become reality thanks to the opportunities that this strategic alliance between several institutions, has provided.

We’ve witnessed the parallel growth in the children and members of the Beauty for a Future program that generates new life processes and changes. From now on, these women must consolidate productive units that will allow them to work and generate income,” stated the Coordinator of Community Relations for Drummond Ltd., Alvaro Daza.

Likewise, the learning process with the Soccer for Peace program shows the creation of community development, and the positive impact through sports, by using soccer as a tool to socialize issues that strengthen peaceful coexistence, leadership, and the transformation of lives through sports and activities that promote the practice of values.

“It pleases us to recognize the achievements attained by our young ones. It is worth highlighting that the education of students and mothers in the Beauty for a Future program, which will allow the generation of resources through these services. We’ve benefitted from many projects like air conditioning in classrooms and the peace band that contribute to providing more friendly spaces,” expressed the Dean of the I.E Rural Carlos Garcia Mayorca, Luzdaris Lozano de Massi.

Also present during the event was Taliana Vargas, President of the Casa del Arbol Foundation, who observed with satisfaction the advances made by the projects: “To see these kids full of life, involved with sports, values, and with positive things despite this having been a process with many sacrifices, but also with plenty of love, is a very important achievement, not only for them but also for all of Cienaga. What we really want with these programs is to create a community, and create positive possibilities in the lives of these people.”
