Drummond improved its position with a score of 3.7 in the most recent safety culture measurement conducted by the external consulting firm Dss+.

Area leaders and managers of the company’s sites met at a Safety Summit in Cartagena to discuss the results from the latest measurement of industrial safety culture, made in 2022. The measurement classified the company and its teams as Independent, an improvement from the results of the measurement in 2017 that classified it as Dependent.

“This achievement is due to the hard work we have been doing, strengthening the leadership of our teams. And we continue to work, as we aim at ‘Interdependence,’ by continuing to promote the vision of moving beyond self-care and the application of individual controls, to a group effort to take care of everybody in our work family,” explained Oscar Vega, industrial safety manager.

The score is the result of the measurement of safety culture in September by the company Dss+ at Drummond Ltd.’s operations. Using its patented system and the Bradley curve, Dss+ identified the company’s position on a scale starting at the early stages and moving toward a mature, sustainable, and effective safety culture.

During the event, participants joined workshops that encouraged reflection to review and strengthen the work. Information was also shared on best practices and programs the Central Committees have been implementing at the different sites, in addition to positive results that have been attained. The committees also described the methodological support provided by Six Sigma.

At the event’s closing, Drummond Company’s mining president, Ron Damron, spoke about his history with the company. He explained that he has seen, since Drummond first arrived in Colombia, amazing growth for everyone and significant efforts to strengthen a culture of industrial safety. He thanked and encouraged the participants, saying, “We are thankful for the experience Drummond has had in Colombia. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and contributions that have made Drummond a world-class operation (…) if we continue to work like this, we will surely achieve the goal we have set for Interdependence by 2026,” he emphasized.

Drummond’s leaders closed the event with the motto “good industrial safety is good business,” renewing their commitment, as they do every year, to continue to work toward a culture that promotes the interdependence of the different teams, to strengthen lines of action, and to continue to contribute to the company’s safety and sustainability.
